Short break that packs a big punch...
‘Expert local guides. Authentic alpine village. Real back-country experience.’
John Caffrey, Barcelona
With the Monte Rosa massif’s three summits of over 4,500m towering above it, Alagna is an off-piste paradise. Close to Milan, Alagna is ideal for a long weekend or a short break. Expert local guides and Europe’s most extensive heli-skiing, make Alagna ‘a must do’ for every skier.
Part of the inter-linked area of Monterosaski, Alagna offers a huge variety of spectacular off-piste runs, many of which are easily accessible directly from the lift system. From Punta Indren at 3,275m, uninterrupted descents of 1,500 vertical meters are typical and runs of 2,000 vertical meters are not uncommon. Steep couloirs, open alpine bowls and long valley runs through the trees provide suitable terrain for all levels of advanced skier.
With nearly 30 established drop points, Alagna boasts the most comprehensive heli-skiing in Europe. There are numerous routes both on the Italian and Swiss side of the Monte Rosa. From the highest landing point at over 4,000m, choose from a variety of spectacular descents, one of which takes you down to Zermatt, the Matterhorn in view for much of the way.
Places to stay
Alagna has resisted the temptation for rampant modern development and remains a charming and authentic alpine village. However, there are many delightful and comfortable places to stay and excellent places to eat and drink.
