We have been taking guests heliskiing in Alagna for more than 15 years and have used that knowledge to select the best ski guides in Alagna.

Local guides born in the area

Most of the guides that we work with as James Orr Heliski have been born and brought up in the area. Alagna does attract guides from out of the area, but we don’t tend to use them as we prefer to stick with locals who know the area best.

We can’t guarantee you that every day will be a heliski day, or that every powder slope will be yours to ski, but we can guarantee that our guides will always pick the best options based on the conditions at the time, taking into account your safety.

The Guide Corps of Alagna

The Guide Corps of Alagna Monterosa was founded in 1872, making it the second oldest in the region behind Courmayeur.

There are currently 40 guides registered with the Guide Corps. We work with many of them, but here are some details on some of the guides we regularly work with:

Roberto Valzer
Born in Alagna, Roberto has been guiding James Orr Heliski clients for many years and become personal friends with many of them. He and his family also own the boutique hotel the Tre Alberi Liberi, where our guests often stay.

Alberto Zucchetti
Fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish Alberto is a regular with our groups, since he became a guide in Alagna in 1999.

Andrea Degasparis
With a father who was also a mountain guide, ‘Dega’ learned to ski when he was only 5 years old and has been exploring the Monte Rosa ever since. He knows every nook of this magnificent area.

Anna Monari
A rare ‘outsider’, Anna was born in Milan, but has been spending her time in the mountains since 1992 and as a guide in Alagna since 2006.
